BT TV goes Dolby Atmos

BT TV will debut Dolby Atmos audio on January 31, as part of its UHD 4K coverage of the Liverpool v Chelsea Premier League fixture. The broadcast will mark the first time anywhere in the world that Dolby Atmos has been used as part of a live sports coverage.

Going forward, Dolby Atmos sound will be used for select events. Currently it’s only envisaged for football coverage, and will not be used for other BT exclusives, such as Moto GP. Production control and the complexities of capturing live audio for Dolby Atmos are cited as reasons to keep Atmos on the pitch
